  		       Baton Rouge is the capital city of the State of Louisiana, and is located entirely within the East Baton Rouge Parish. Occupying an area of the state along the Mississippi River to the southeast, it is defined by its location upon the Istrouma Bluff, which protects it from flooding.  Additional measures have also been taken to ensure that at times of high water; the Mississippi River is rooted through a series of dykes and drains.

Educational options within the area are vast. The East Baton Rouge Parish School District alone contains around 90 schools in Baton Rouge which break down into 56 elementary schools, 16 middle schools and 18 high schools.  Baton Rouge also provides school options for the aurally and visually impaired; Louisiana School for the Deaf and the Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired. Additionally, you will find schools outside Baton Rouge in areas such as Livingston Parish (including Denham Springs and Walker) as well as Ascension Parish (including Prairieville and Gonzales).
